Release Notes 4.4
From TDiWiki
The following information is available in the current Release Notes.
[edit] What's New
- (VIRTUALfx™) ConsoleWorks now maintains the virtual serial console connection to migrating virtual machines. This persistent connection enables ConsoleWorks to provide you with migration status data and ensure that no console messages are lost during the migration.
- (VIRTUALfx) Two new ESX Console connector types have been added: ESX Host, which enables you to monitor, log, and manage a VMware® vCenter™ Server, and ESX Log, which enables you to scan vCenter Server logs for Events.
- (VMware) The View Hypervisors page has two new viewing options: Folder View, which replicates the folders of Hosts and Virtual Machines on vCenter Server, and Flat View, which simply lists vCenter Server Hosts and Virtual Machines (logs are collapsed under their associated Host).
- (VMware) The View Hypervisors page has three new right-click ('short-cut') menu commands: Set Up Access, which creates an account on the ESX hypervisor, enabling it to be managed through ConsoleWorks and have these actions logged; Reset Access, which changes the account's password; and Remove Access, which deletes the account.
- (VMware) Logging and scanning of ESXi data streams now supported.
- (VMware) Access to VMware Virtual Infrastructure Web Access now supported.
- A Security Audit Event that triggers each time a User changes a Profile has been added.
- ConsoleWorks secures browser sessions with OpenSSL 0.9.8n.
- When using Consoleworks in a web browser, you can now customize the text that appears on the browser tab (when available) and in the browser title (top left corner of the browser window) for each active Consoleworks session.
[edit] What's Changed
- (VIRTUALfx) The Virtual Center Server Logger connector has been removed. Its ability to capture a vCenter user's actions is included in the new ESX Server connector.
- OpenSSH and Java™ are no longer required to operate VIRTUALfx or ConsoleWorks.
- ConsoleWorks windows now overlap by default. To stop windows overlapping, change the configuration on the USERS: Preferences page.
- The Security Audit Events, LOGIN and LOGOUT, now contain the acting User's Profile information.
- Admin Control permissions now required to configure and run reports on Users and Profiles.
- Profiles with Admin Read permissions can now configure and run reports, just not reports on Users and Profiles.
- The SNMP Traps page has relocated to the EVENTS section of the ConsoleWorks menu.
- The Time-Stamp and Meta-Harvester Cycle Time features (used in log management) have been removed from ConsoleWorks.
[edit] What's Fixed
- (UNIX®) The MANAGE_CERTIFICATES feature that enables you to create, copy, or remove SSL certificates for ConsoleWorks invocations has been updated to improve management of systems lacking a domain name.
- (Syslog) ConsoleWorks now better manages NULL characters encountered during scans of Syslog Consoles.
- (Linux®, Sun™ Solaris™) An informative Console status now appears for Consoles configured with invalid domain names.
- ConsoleWorks Connection Manager now recognizes licensed SSH client connections.
- Searches and displays of log data now include activity that occurred at 00:00:00:00000.
- (UNIX) ConsoleWorks GUI elements display properly in Firefox after upgrades from ConsoleWorks 3.
- ConsoleWorks displays the log rather than stopping or restarting when you try to view a log containing malformed records (reference Case #1440).
