UPGRADING TO 4.4-0u0

YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • Invocations upgraded to ConsoleWorks 4.4 cannot be used in ConsoleWorks 3.
  • Invocations created in ConsoleWorks 4.4 cannot be used in ConsoleWorks 3.
  • (Upgrades from ConsoleWorks 2 to ConsoleWorks 3.2) Invocations running ConsoleWorks versions earlier than version 3.3 must be upgraded to ConsoleWorks 3.3 or later prior to upgrading to ConsoleWorks 4.
  • (Upgrades from ConsoleWorks 3) You might notice an increase in disk utilization and CPU load the first time you run ConsoleWorks 4. This increase is caused by the new ConsoleWorks chart service. The chart service is the engine behind the real-time charting of Event and Log information in ConsoleWorks 4. To ensure that it presents you with the most up-to-date information, the chart service indexes log entries as they occur. During that initial start of ConsoleWorks 4, however, the chart service must index all of the never-been-indexed log files from your earlier ConsoleWorks installation. This operation might take some time and could require 100 percent of CPU usage.
  • (Microsoft® Windows®) Upgrading to ConsoleWorks 4.4 resets the ConsoleWorks server’s port number to the default: 5176.
  • (CWCLIent, CWTProx) If you use CWCLIent and CWTProx and your local workstation is not the ConsoleWorks server, you should also upgrade these applications when you upgrade to ConsoleWorks 4.4. For information about upgrading CWCLIent, refer to CWCLIent User’s Guide. For information about upgrading CWTProx, refer to the technical note, Using Third-Party Terminal Emulators.
  • If your site participated in beta testing ConsoleWorks during 2008, you must empty the ConsoleWorks META directory before starting ConsoleWorks 4.4. For the location of the ConsoleWorks META directory, refer to the ConsoleWorks installation guide for your operating system. Also, do not use any beta-version logs in ConsoleWorks 4.4.
  • Prior to upgrading to version 4.4-0u0, create a back-up copy of the ConsoleWorks server configuration for the current version. To back up the configuration, on the ConsoleWorks 4 menu, click Admin > Server Management > Backup. On the ConsoleWorks 3 menu, click Admin > Database > Backup.
  • As of version 4, the new interface required that we move some of the processing to the user’s client computer. If that desktop / laptop has a slower CPU and or doesn’t have enough memory, then things can seem to move rather slowly as compared to v3. Also it matters what version of browser you use. We’ve optimized ConsoleWorks for IE 7 and 8, and the most current version of Firefox. We tend to suggest 2GB of memory as the minimum for your client PC.

OPERATING SYSTEM PATCHES You should install the latest patches available for the operating system running ConsoleWorks. A list of required patches for each supported operating system is available on the TDI website (www.tditx.com/support_serverkits43.asp).

LICENSES For Upgrades From ConsoleWorks 3 (3.3_0u0–3.7-0u5)

  • You need a Bridge License. To obtain a Bridge License, contact your TDI Regional Sales Manager (mailto:sales@tditx.com). If, however, your site has previously used a Bridge License (to upgrade from ConsoleWorks 2.0 to ConsoleWorks 3, for example), you cannot use a Bridge License in the current upgrade. Instead, you need to use the ConsoleWorks 4 license keys. To obtain the ConsoleWorks 4 license keys, contact your TDI Regional Sales Manager (mailto:sales@tditx.com).

For Upgrades From ConsoleWorks 4 If upgrading within the ConsoleWorks 4 release family, you do not have to reload any currently loaded license keys. You do, of course, have to load any new license keys.

For Upgrades From ConsoleWorks 2 or ConsoleWorks 3.0–3.2 Invocations running ConsoleWorks versions earlier than version 3.3 must be upgraded to ConsoleWorks 3.3 or later prior to upgrading to ConsoleWorks 4. ConsoleWorks 3.7 is currently available from the TDI website (http://www.tditechnologies.com/support/).

  • If you are upgrading to ConsoleWorks 4.4 from a version earlier than the ConsoleWorks 3 release family, contact TDI Support (mailto:support@tditx.com).
